Midlothian ISD Virtual Learning Pathway is an option for students in grades 9–12 to complete their high school education in a fully online learning environment. This pathway provides flexibility for today’s learners with support from excellent educators in Midlothian ISD.

The virtual learning pathway is available to students in grades 9-12 that reside within Midlothian ISD’s attendance boundaries or that meet one of the provisions in policy for a potential student transfer.

No, students enrolled in the virtual learning pathway will remain students at their home high school campus. The Virtual Learning Pathway is not designated as an independent virtual campus. 

Students in the virtual learning pathway will utilize Imagine Learning’s Edgenuity, an online learning platform, for all course content. Students who choose to enroll in available dual-credit courses will be co-enrolled in Navarro College courses.  

Families interested in virtual learning are encouraged to complete the Virtual Learning Interest Declaration Form. The form is not a formal application for enrollment, but rather a planning tool to help the district better understand anticipated participation and prepare staffing and program support for the fall semester. 

Students who are new to MISD may enroll in the district and the virtual learning platform at the beginning of a semester. Current students are eligible to register for virtual school at the beginning of the year, unless a life-altering circumstance requires consideration. Students and parents should set up a meeting with their high school counselor if this need arises during the school year. 

No. Students may request a change in the learning environment; however, once the change is made, the student must remain in the new learning environment for the remainder of the school year. Students will not be permitted to move back and forth between virtual and in-person learning throughout the year.

For example, if a student begins the year in the Virtual Learning Pathway and later transitions to in-person learning, the student must remain in on-campus classes for the rest of the school year.
 

No. At this time, the district's new pathway is a 100% virtual learning platform. Students in the virtual learning pathway are not eligible to participate in school-sponsored athletics, fine arts or extracurricular activities. Based on community feedback, the district will study adding a hybrid learning model in the future.

Yes. Students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Pathway will be required to attend in person on designated days to complete state and college-readiness assessments. Families will be notified of testing dates well in advance, so appropriate arrangements can be made for students to report to campus. 

Yes. Midlothian Independent School District is committed to providing flexible learning opportunities that support the diverse needs of students and families. Students transitioning from non-traditional learning environments will be required to complete the district enrollment process and may participate in additional readiness reviews to ensure appropriate placement and provide the support needed for long-term success.

Yes. There will be a designated counselor to support all students in the virtual learning pathway. Students will be able to meet with the counselor virtually or in person upon request.

As a Midlothian ISD student, all students in the virtual school will be held to the Midlothian ISD Code of Conduct.

Midlothian Independent School District will issue a school identification badge to all students. Students are required to present their school ID at all school- or district-sponsored events and during any required on-campus assessments. Students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Pathway will have a virtual learning designation indicated on their badge.

Yes. Students will be eligible to participate in graduation with their designated high school upon completion of all graduation requirements. 

Yes. Families will receive information through ParentSquare, our official district communication tool. The information to be provided and frequency of messaging is under consideration at this time.. 

Yes. Families will receive information from the campus as enrolled students of the campus, unless you choose to opt out of these notifications. 

Yes. Students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Pathway will be held to the same academic expectations as students attending school in person. This includes receiving instruction aligned to the same state standards (TEKS), following the same grading guidelines, meeting the same graduation requirements, and participating in all required state assessments.

Student attendance and participation will be tracked through his/her online learning activity, completed assignments, assessments, and regular check-ins, following Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines under SB 569. More details will be provided in the near future. Source - TEA SB 569 Overview 

Yes. All required STAAR/EOC and district benchmark assessments will be administered in accordance with state and district requirements. Some designated assessments must be completed in person at the student’s home campus, while some may be completed at home. Families will receive advance notice of all testing dates and times so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Yes. Per board policy, grades earned through the virtual pathway will count toward GPA and class rank, just as traditional coursework and approved virtual courses do currently.

Teachers in each course will monitor students’ progress and performance in online courses. They will provide ongoing academic support of course content through office hours and communication tools. If a student does not demonstrate mastery of the learning objectives or is not making progress through the course, the teacher will reach out to the parents and student to discuss additional needs. Through partnership with the family and district staff, it may be determined that a student is not in the best placement for academic progress and needs to return to in-person instruction to be successful.

Not necessarily. Every student learns differently. For some students, a full-time virtual learning environment provides the flexibility, independence, and personalized pace needed to thrive. For others, a traditional in-person setting may be the best path for success.

The Virtual Learning Pathway is designed for students who demonstrate the ability to learn independently, manage assignments and deadlines with limited support, engage effectively in a device-based online environment, and maintain consistent participation without daily in-person interaction. Students are also most successful when they have a home environment that supports focused online learning.

Midlothian Independent School District counselors are available to help families determine whether the Virtual Learning Pathway is an appropriate fit for their child.

Yes, Imagine Edgenuity platform does include AP courses as part of the course offering for virtual students. 

Midlothian Independent School District partners with Navarro College and Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to offer high school students educational programs and courses. Qualified students may be dually enrolled in the Virtual Learning Pathway and Navarro College or TSTC. Students MUST meet both the college-readiness requirements and the Midlothian ISD standards to enroll. 

Midlothian ISD has an early graduation policy, which allows all students the opportunity to pursue if they wish. The student and their parents/guardians are encouraged to reach out to the counselor to discuss this option by the end of the student’s sophomore year. Documentation must be signed and approved before the process can begin.

Our program will use Imagine Edgenuity, a comprehensive online learning platform designed to meet the needs of virtual learning programs.

Yes. Students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Pathway are fully-enrolled Midlothian ISD students. They are allowed to attend extracurricular activities outside of the school day with their student badge.

Students in the virtual learning pathway will be able to attend extracurricular events outside of school hours. They will be required to provide their VLP student badge upon entry and will sit in the designated student section. Virtual students will be allowed to attend annual campus events, such as prom, if they meet the same criteria as in-person students.

Yes. All students enrolled in Midlothian ISD must comply with the expectations outlined in the MISD Student Code of Conduct.
