Veterans Day assemblies build community

Midlothian ISD has a rich tradition of honoring Veterans Day and bringing the community together to remember and recognize our veterans. All 14 MISD schools hosted assemblies, programs and events that included choir and band performances this week to honor the men and women of the Armed Services. MISD middle schools coordinated a day of activities on Friday, Nov. 10 with breakfast hosted at Frank Seale, lunch at Walnut Grove, and dessert at Dieterich. Veterans from across Ellis County attended the events.

MISD  Elementary schools also hosted events featuring special performances by grade-level groups of students. The festivities are important opportunities for students to meet veterans who live in our community and are serving or have served honorably in the military.

The week also included a special reunion between a military father and his children. TSgt Juan C. Ortiz Rivera, US Air Force and Puerto Rico National Guard was deployed to Africa in March 2023 and returned home to Midlothian to surprise his children. MISD students Jean Ortiz and Edgardo Velez were surprised at school when their dad greeted them in class. MISD was at MHS to capture the heartwarming moment.
