Trustees approve 2024-25 Learning Calendar
The MISD Board of Trustees approved the 2024-25 Learning Calendar at its Feb. 26 meeting. The adopted calendar includes seven Pink Days, which are professional learning and planning days for staff, and complies with the state requirement to provide a minimum of 75,600 instructional minutes and 187 teacher contract days. The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024 and the last day is Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Prior to Board consideration, three draft calendar options were reviewed by the District Education Improvement Council, which includes a cross-section of stakeholders, and a questionnaire was emialed to parents and staff to gather feedback on the drafts. More than 2,550 questionnaire responses were received and calendar Draft B received the most first choice responses at 57 percent. Trustees approved the Draft B calendar option.
The adopted calendar includes the following:
- 7 Pink Days and 2 Green Days (Professional Development/Student Holday)
- Mini Fall Break for students in October
- Thanksgiving Break Nov. 25-29
- Winter Break Dec. 23-Jan. 7
- One Early Release Day per semester to accommodate parent/teacher conferences
- Spring Break March 10-14
How was the calendar developed?
The calendar was developed by the MISD Calendar Committee, comprised of teachers, campus leaders and administrators. The Committee took into consideration the extensive community feedback gathered last year that led the district to move from a traditional academic calendar to a hybrid “Pink Day” model. MISD staff were recently polled and 78 percent of respondents said they supported the “Pink Day” calendar structure. Utilizing the hybrid model for another year honors staff sentiment and the feedback gathered last year from the MISD community. Additionally, it provides MISD ample time to gather meaningful data to further evaluate academic achievement and its impact on the well-being of students, staff and MISD families. The final three drafts were reviewed by the Districtwide Education Improvement Council (DEIC), which includes a cross-section of stakeholders.
