Debt-service tax rate remains unchanged, fulfilling Bond 2025 commitment to taxpayers
The Midlothian ISD Board of Trustees voted 6-1 to adopt a total tax rate of $1.02969 per $100 of taxable property value for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The new rate is 4.39 cents lower than last year’s rate of $1.0708 and continues a multi-year trend of decreases to the overall district tax rate. The district’s overall tax rate has decreased by more than 32 cents over the past five years.
On average, MISD homeowners will see a decrease of about $92 in school district property taxes compared to last year. The calculation is based on the average residential home market value of $480,494, which is provided by ECAD.
The adopted rate includes $0.6169 for Maintenance and Operations (M&O), which supports the district’s daily operations, and $0.41 for Interest and Sinking (I&S), which is used to repay voter-approved bond debt. The Board maintained the I&S rate at 41 cents. That is the same rate communicated to voters during the Bond 2025 election. With that tax rate, the district has already issued a principal payment of $19,200,000 on the new bonds.
