TEA releases 2023 accountability ratings

TEA releases 2023 accountability ratings

Midlothian ISD ratings show 85% of schools earn a rating of A or B

The long-awaited 2022-2023 Texas Education Agency (TEA) state accountability ratings were released April 24, 2025, following a delay caused by a lawsuit surrounding changes to the system. With two campuses earning an A rating, eight earning a B, and three earning a C, Midlothian ISD's 2023 accountability rating is a score of 82, which is classified as a B rating under the new A-F accountability framework. None of MISD’s 13 rated schools earned a D or F for the 2023 year.

When calculating a school district’s overall grade, the state accountability system weights student achievement at 70% and closing performance gaps at 30%, highlighting the importance of success for all students.

The 2023 accountability system raises expectations for all Texas districts by implementing tougher College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) thresholds, redesigning the STAAR assessment to include more critical thinking components and writing requirements for all grade levels, and recalibrating how student growth is measured.  The other difference in the accountability system is that each campus is weighted for the district average based on the campus's enrollment.

Celebrating Distinctions

In addition to the overall ratings, Midlothian ISD campuses earned eight academic distinctions from TEA, highlighting excellence in specific subject areas and growth categories.

  • Midlothian Heritage High School - Top 25% in Comparative Academic Growth
  • Midlothian High School - Top 25% in Comparative Academic Growth and Academic Achievement in Social Studies
  • Longbranch Elementary - Academic Achievement in Math and Top 25% in Comparative Closing the Gaps
  • LaRue Miller Elementary - Top 25% in Comparative Academic Growth
  • J.R. Irvin Elementary - Top 25% in Comparative Closing the Gaps
  • Dieterich Middle School - Top 25% in Comparative Academic Growth

Understanding the Changes

The 2022-23 ratings are the first to be issued under the revised accountability system. The ratings reflect how schools performed against a new set of calculations and are not a comparison of year-over-year student learning.

To help parents and community members understand these changes, MISD created a series of informative videos last fall. These short videos break down the updates in easy-to-understand language and are available.
