Student earns prestigious national Speech and Debate honor

Midlothian High School junior Eleanor Drake has earned the Academic All-American award from the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA), one of the most prestigious honors a student competitor can achieve.

From more than 141,000 NSDA student members nationwide, fewer than 1% receive this recognition, placing Eleanor among the top one percent of speech and debate students in the country.

The Academic All-American award is reserved for students who have:

  • Completed five semesters of high school
  • Earned the Superior Distinction degree in the NSDA Honor Society (750 merit points through tournament competition)
  • Maintained a 3.7 or higher GPA
  • Achieved a high score on the SAT or ACT
  • Demonstrated outstanding character and leadership

Eleanor is only the ninth student in Midlothian ISD history to receive this honor and just the second junior to qualify before the start of senior year.
