Sheri Lenard named 2025 recipient of the Jean Coleman Award for Excellence in Reading Education

Trustees proudly recognized Sheri Lenard, second-grade reading teacher at Jean Coleman Elementary, as the fifth recipient of the Jean Coleman Award for Excellence in Reading Education during the October 20, 2025, monthly meeting.

This award, established through a generous donation from the Jean Coleman family, honors a second-grade reading teacher who exemplifies excellence in reading instruction and is nominated by peers and administrators.

Jean Coleman taught second grade in Midlothian ISD for 25 years, leaving a legacy of dedication, compassion and commitment to literacy. The Coleman family, who attended the meeting, continues to celebrate her impact by recognizing educators who share her passion for helping children develop a lifelong love of reading.

Lenard's colleagues describe her as a collaborative leader and an inspiring educator.

  • Her willingness to share resources and coach others through implementation has raised the level of reading instruction across her team.
  • Her patience and flexibility with her students' needs are admirable, as she adapts on the spot for students’ individual needs.
  • She is always open to new ideas and concepts, and keeps all students engaged.
  • She is great at collaborating with colleagues to discuss new research, analyze student data, and apply evidence-based practices.

For these reasons and so many more, Midlothian ISD is proud to recognize Sheri Lenard on this well-deserved honor.
