In honor of Veteran’s Day, MISD invited Mr. John C. Boswell, retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, to flip the coin at the Midlothian High School vs Highland Park football game held Thursday, Nov. 7, at the MISD Multi-Purpose Stadium. Mr. Boswell was born in 1924 and celebrated his 100th birthday on October 12th. He is a proud resident of Midlothian ISD.
Mr. Boswell enlisted in the military at the age of 17, along with six other young men from his high school. They each felt a strong responsibility to serve their country following the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. After completing his training, he became a corpsman stationed on the Island of Iwo Jima. He was privileged and elated when the United States flag was raised to fly freely over the island, indicating the end of WWII. It is a picture he has carried with him ever since. Boswell retired from the Navy after 23 years of service. He is a proud American who encourages others to value our freedoms and to never take those freedoms for granted.
MISD will honor our area service men and women on Monday, November 11, with a variety of Veterans Day events and celebrations.
