Midlothian ISD names head volleyball coach at MHS, head wrestling coach at MHHS

Midlothian ISD has named Kierstan Smith as head volleyball coach at Midlothian High School and Lehi Benton as head wrestling coach at Midlothian Heritage High School. 

Smith has already established strong ties within the Midlothian community through her service as assistant varsity volleyball coach at MHS. In that role, she helped develop student-athletes, strengthen team culture and support the continued success of the volleyball program.

Prior to joining MISD, Smith coached volleyball, track and girls soccer at Mansfield High School and served in leadership roles with club volleyball organizations across North Texas. She also competed in collegiate club volleyball while attending the University of North Texas.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art from the University of North Texas with concentrations in photography and ceramics. She holds Art EC-12 certification and AVID certifications.

“I’ve been blessed to have already immersed myself in this community that welcomed me with open arms and look forward to building on the tradition of success that has already been established here,” Smith said. “My vision is to develop these young ladies, who I care for so much, into strong athletes, teammates and leaders on and off the court through accountability, discipline and drive.”

Benton joins Midlothian Heritage High School after serving as head wrestling coach at Weatherford High School. He previously led the wrestling program at Rouse High School in Leander ISD, where he oversaw all aspects of both boys and girls wrestling programs.

Throughout his coaching career, Benton has focused on developing competitive wrestlers while fostering discipline, character and a commitment to personal growth. In addition to coaching, he hsa taught science cousese at the high school level and collaborated with fellow educators to support student success in the classroom.

Benton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in life science from Excelsior College and is certified in Life Science and Composite Science. Before entering education, Benton served nearly nine years in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. During his military service, he served in leadership positions responsible for training and mentoring fellow soldiers.

“Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing,” Benton said. “I’m honored to join Midlothian ISD and lead the Heritage wrestling program.”

Midlothian ISD looks forward to the leadership both coaches will bring to their respective programs and the positive impact they will have on student-athletes, campuses and the community.
