Midlothian ISD names associate principal, finalizes Bond 2025 project team

Brett Ratzlaff named Associate Principal at MHS

Midlothian ISD has selected Brett Ratzlaff to serve as the new Associate Principal of Campus Operations at Midlothian High School. His career and connection to MHS spans from his own years as a student to more than a decade as an educator and campus leader.

Ratzlaff, a Midlothian High School graduate, has served as an assistant principal at MHS since 2022 and will step into the role previously held by Chris Cravey, who was recently named as the school’s new principal.

“Brett brings with him a lifelong connection to MISD and a deep understanding of the traditions, values, and people that make this community so special,” said Cravey. “His passion for Midlothian is evident in everything he does, and he leads with both pride and purpose. In his new role, Brett will continue to play an instrumental part in the success of the daily operations of MHS.”

Ratzlaff brings 21 years of experience in education to this role. Much of his career has been spent serving the students and families of Midlothian ISD. He joined MHS in 2009 as a social studies teacher and assistant tennis coach before moving into campus administration in 2022. His leadership experience includes campus operations, safety and security, facilities coordination, budget and resource management, student discipline and instructional leadership.

In his new role, Ratzlaff will continue to play an integral role in the daily operations of MHS while helping lead the campus through the upcoming Bond 2025 renovation project. “I am especially excited to partner closely with him as we prepare for the upcoming bond renovation that will begin later this spring,” said Cravey. ”His operational expertise, institutional knowledge, and commitment to excellence will be invaluable as we lead our campus through this exciting season of growth and transformation.”

Ratzlaff said he is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the school and community that have played such an important role in his own journey. “I am excited to take on this new role as Associate Principal of Operations,” said Ratzlaff. “I am grateful to be a part of Midlothian High School's tradition of excellence and to continue supporting our staff, students, and families."

Ratzlaff earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University. He also completed the Region 10 School Finance Academy and holds certifications in principalship, social studies and mathematics.

MISD finalizes team charged with delivering Bond 2025 projects

Midlothian ISD continues to make progress toward putting the people, systems and oversight in place to responsibly deliver the Bond 2025 projects approved by voters. Most recently is the approved selection of Nat Gomez by the Board of Trustees to serve as the district’s Construction Project Specialist for the Bond Program. Gomez currently serves as a coordinator in the Midlothian ISD Maintenance and Operations Department and brings firsthand knowledge and expertise of MISD facilities, campuses and operational needs to the role.

The Construction Project Specialist is a bond-funded position dedicated to supporting the implementation of Bond 2025 projects and is tied to the duration of the bond program. The position adds dedicated, in-house capacity to help coordinate the bond renovation and construction projects from planning through completion.

As projects move into design and construction, Gomez will work alongside district staff, architects, engineers, contractors and consultants to help coordinate the schedules, monitor work and support the successful delivery of projects.

Gomez has served Midlothian ISD for five years and is known throughout the organization as a collaborative leader committed to supporting campuses and departments, and ensuring students and staff have safe, effective environments in which to learn, work and thrive. His experience within MISD’s Maintenance and Operations Department also provides valuable institutional knowledge as the district prepares to manage renovation and construction projects across multiple facilities.

The addition of a dedicated construction project specialist is another step in building the internal structure necessary to manage a bond program of this size while maintaining a strong focus on fiscal stewardship, transparency and accountability to the community.

The position of a dedicated Bond Program project specialist reflects Midlothian ISD’s ongoing commitment to transparency, fiscal stewardship and responsible management of the Bond 2025 program.
