MHS Senior Wins Prestigious Dallas Winds Fanfare Competition

Midlothian ISD is proud to announce that Timothy Duke, a senior at Midlothian High School and a member of the school’s band program, has been selected as one of the winners of the Dallas Winds organization’s annual Fanfare Competition. His original brass fanfare- Open The Gates! will be performed live in the lobby by professional musicians 15-minutes before one of the Dallas Winds’ subscription concerts during the upcoming season—a beloved tradition since 2000.

This competitive honor is open to composers of all ages and levels, with winning entries selected by a panel of professionals for their creativity, musicality, and suitability for brass ensemble. Timothy’s fanfare stood out among many impressive submissions, including works by published and professional composers.

The Dallas Winds’ fanfare series is a highlight of each concert night, as patrons gather in the lobby to experience the powerful sounds of brass echoing through the venue. For Timothy, this is more than just a performance opportunity—it’s a milestone on his path to a future in music composition, which he plans to pursue in college.
