MHS earns Broadway Dallas HSMTA Outstanding Direction award

The Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theater Awards (HSMTA) were created to recognize and support excellence in high school musical theater in North Texas. Students and educators are recognized with an annual awards ceremony modeled after the Tony Awards®, which includes performance and production award categories.

MHS and HHS were among 75 high schools (1A-6A schools including private schools) to participate in the 2024 Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theater Awards (HSMTA). Both programs earned coveted nominations for their spring musicals. At the May 24 HSMTA awards ceremony at Dallas Fair Park Music Hall, Midlothian High School's performance of Chicago (Teen Edition) was awarded Outstanding Direction. They were one of 10 North Texas schools nominated in the outstanding direction category. See the full list of HSMTA winners here.

MHS made district history with a total of eight HSMTA nominations in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Musical (a first in district history) - Audrey Chase
  • Outstanding Sound Design - Ariel Birdwell
  • Outstanding Direction - Chastity Kennedy
  • Outstanding Costume Design - Emily Pillar
  • Outstanding Orchestra - Elijah Jones
  • Outstanding Lead Performer - Gabrielle Rollins
  • Outstanding Supporting Performer - Tristan Garcia
  • Outstanding Crew and Technical Execution - Kate Kennedy

Additional MHS students representing the Cast and Crew of the award-winning performance of Chicago (Teen Edition) are Zachary Cardenas, Elizabeth Valle, Olivia Leath, Holton Moorhead, Kelsey Jones, Katie Parker, Grace Dhooghe and Jax Jackson.

Midlothian Heritage High School's performance of Big Fish (School Edition) also received an HSMTA nomination for Outstanding Choreography.

At its April meeting, the Midlothian Board of Trustees recognized HHS and MHS for their Broadway Dallas HSMTA nominations. Congratulations to both programs. We are MISD Proud of our students and staff!
