Midlothian ISD students will soon have access to a competition pool right here in our community. Through a partnership between Midlothian ISD, the City of Midlothian and the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, a new community recreation center will be built on South 14th Street near the MISD Multi-Purpose Stadium. The facility will include an indoor competition pool that will serve the Midlothian and Heritage high school swim programs, giving student-athletes a local place to practice and compete. The center is part of the City of Midlothian's 2021 Bond Program.

The partnership includes a resolution unanimously approved by the Midlothian ISD Board of Trustees at its September meeting that authorizes a long-term lease and shared-use agreement with the City of Midlothian. Under the agreement, MISD will lease approximately five acres of district-owned land to the City, allowing the City to design and construct the recreation center. MISD students will have access to the indoor pool for competitive swim training and meets. The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is expected to operate the facility through a separate agreement with the City. The project creates an opportunity to maximize district-owned property through a partnership that directly benefits students while also bringing a new recreational resource to the Midlothian community.
