Full-Time virtual learning high school program launching

Initial program open to students grades 9-12

The district conducted a community-wide survey that generated more than 1,100 responses. Survey responses showed that nearly 400 families across all grade levels expressed interest in some form of virtual learning, with a strong interest in a hybrid format that offers some in-person classes with access to extracurricular programs. The survey data will help guide the district’s development of a high-quality virtual learning experience in year one and beyond.

The virtual option that will launch this fall will provide families with an additional learning pathway for students. It will serve full-time virtual students only and is not a hybrid learning model at this time. Given the community's strong interest in expanded virtual options, district leaders are continuing to explore hybrid virtual options that could be considered in future years based on student and family needs. Many families choose MISD for the wide range of rigorous academic pathways, extracurricular and leadership programs, and hands-on learning experiences designed to prepare students for college, careers, and life beyond graduation. As a system focused on delivering excellence, Midlothian ISD also recognizes that some students and families may benefit from additional flexible learning options virtual learning provides.

Families interested in the full-time virtual learning program for their high school-aged students are encouraged to complete a Virtual Learning Interest Declaration Form. The form is not a formal application for enrollment, but rather a planning tool to help the district better understand anticipated participation and prepare staffing and program support for the fall semester. The program is available to students who reside within MISD attendance boundaries or meet approved transfer eligibility guidelines.

Additional program details, enrollment procedures and application information will be shared during a Virtual Learning Information Night scheduled for Tuesday, June 9 at 6 p.m. at the MISD Administration Building. At this meeting, families will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the program before enrolling in full-time virtual learning. The meeting will be held in person. For those unable to attend the meeting, an on-demand recording will be available. Completing the Virtual Learning Interest Declaration is the first step in virtual learning enrollment.
