Understanding the Ballot Language
School bond ballots can be confusing. In an effort to educate voters and be very clear about what is proposed in each proposition, MISD is providing this guide to help voters read the ballot and make their decision. State law requires school bond proposals to be presented in a very specific way. Texas Election Code § 52.072 and Education Code § 45.003 require certain types of projects to be listed separately, and school bonds must say “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE” in all caps as a heading – even when experts agree that the school district tax rate will not increase as a result of the bond. We hope you find this information helpful as you prepare to vote.
Things to know before you vote
- State law requires school bond ballots to say "THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE." If approved by MISD voters, the purchase of bonds for the proposed projects is not expected to increase the current I&S tax rate.
- Midlothian ISD Proposition will be at the very end of your ballot. Review a sample ballot here.
- The State of Texas is asking voters to consider 17 Constitutional Amendments.
- MISD Proposition A is what is referred to as the General Proposition.
- MISD Proposition B proposes a New Career and Technical Education facility. This project is not required to be listed separately but the Board of Trustees is asking voters to consider this project on its own.
- MISD Proposition C is a proposal for technology devices. State law requires technology devices to be considered on a separate proposition.
