Proposition C Technology Devices

As part of the 2025 Bond Election, Proposition C focuses on students and staff having access to appropriate, reliable technology devices such as laptops, portable smart boards and tablets that support learning, communication, collaboration, and innovation. Students in grades 6-12 are issued Chromebooks for use at home and in the classroom. Elementary students have access to tablets and Chromebooks as needed. Teachers are issued devices for teaching, communication, and other work-related duties.
Technology devices are presented to voters as a separate proposition on the ballot to comply with Texas state law, which requires certain types of proposals, such as the purchase of technology devices, to be voted on separately. This ensures transparency and gives voters a clear choice on each investment area.
The term of the debt for the purchase of assets such as technology devices will not exceed the life of the asset. On average, technology devices are paid for within five years.
What’s Included?
Proposition C allocates $5.6 million for the purchase of student and teacher devices, to replace devices that have reached the end of their lifecycle or are beyond repair and to purchase new devices to serve a growing enrollment.
- Laptops and tablets for classroom and home use
- Portable smart boards to enhance interactive learning
As a reminder, MISD’s enrollment is expected to grow 3% annually in the near term. That is an average increase of 350 students each year for the next five years. Enrollment is projected to increase between 3,200 and 4,600 students in the next ten years.
Fiscal Responsibility
Proposition C is part of a bond proposal that will not require an increase to the current tax rate. For voters aged 65 and older, school taxes are never affected as long as exemptions are on file with the local appraisal district.
