2022-2023 Zoning Process
* ALL NEW ZONING WENT INTO EFFECT FALL 2022. The following is a summary of the 2022-2023 process that remains in place.
Welcome to our community zoning committee webpage! We hope you will find this site helpful with the latest presentations for each meeting so you can see all of the information the committee is reviewing to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees. Our expectation to bring the recommendation for formal approval is March/April timeframe.
The purpose of this committee is to make a recommendation to the Board for new elementary and high school zones due to the Elementary #8 opening and the expansion of Heritage High School. Also, as the committee looks at the boundaries in a holistic manner for the entire district, they may make middle school zone recommendations as needed.
Prior to a formal Board recommendation, the zoning committee will host community meeting input opportunities. Parents will receive an email with those details as the date gets closer. Additionally, we will post this information on the district and campus social media.
ALL NEW ZONING WILL GO INTO EFFECT FALL 2022.
The purpose of this meeting is to learn about the process, Board approved parameters and developing team norms.
The purpose of this meeting is to hear from our demographer and look at the current and projected growth of our community. This lays the foundation for our committee to look at long-term growth and how to best balance school enrollment.
Meeting 3 on January 27, 2021 - Presentation/Information
The purpose of this meeting is to hear from our transportation team and specialized learning team to learn the impact of new school zones through their lens. The committee broke up into teams to begin their work on the school zones.
The committee received several zoning options from our demographer as a starting point to consider for possible school zones. They continued their work in teams and evaluated the zoning options using the parameters set by the Board and editing the options to best fit our goals.
As MISD prepares to open Elementary School #8 and Heritage High School Phase 2, reviewing and recommending new school boundaries are necessary. To take a proactive and holistic approach, the district administration convened a community committee to review the latest demographer and housing information and make recommendations for elementary and high school boundaries, as well as re-evaluate middle school boundaries, as needed.
